Disks show greyed out during a restore job. -
Description
Restoring a VM from a quiesced backup savepoint. Disk drives are greyed out in the restore wizard.
Occurs under the following configuration:- Backup job had quiescing enabled- VM Hardware at Version 9- VMware Tools installed -
Cause
The reference to the VMDK files in the manifest metadata are not matching the vmdk file in the VMConfig metadata -
Resolution
WORKAROUND:
1. Browse to the savepoint location, for safety create new folder and make a backup of the manifest.metadata and VmConfig.metadata files.
2. Open the manifest metadata (not the backup) file using notepad and modify the manifest.metadata file. Locate the following entry in the file.<FileMapEntry SourceFile="[Datastore] VMname/VMname-000001.vmdk"
3. Remove the '-000001' and modify to the following:
<FileMapEntry SourceFile="[Datastore] VMname/VMname.vmdk"4. Close and save.
5. Now use 'Restore from Virtual Manifest', browse to the manifest location and restore. The disks will now show as normal.STATUS:This issue is corrected as of the vRanger 7.0.1. -
