Quiesced backup of SBS2011 VM fails with Error "3201 - can't open [DATASTORE] VM/VM.vmdk" -
Cause
Quiesced backup job fails with vRanger for "3201 - can't open [DATASTORE] VM/VM.vmdk"
Creating a quiesced snapshot with vSphere is successful.
Windows Small Business Server 2011 (SBS 2011) is currently not on supported list in the in the following VMware compatibility guide: http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php

Resolution
A possible resolution to this issue is installing vzShadow and removing the VSS component from VMWare Tools
To install vzShadow on a vRanger 6.x:

To remove VSS from VMware tools please do the following.
Modify your VMware tools installations to remove VSS from it.
- Click install/upgrade VMware tools on the Guest OS from your vSphere client.
- Choose interactive mode
- Double click the VMware tools installation in the Guest OS.
- Choose Modify
- Drop down the VMware Device Drivers
- Select Volume Shadow Copy Services
- Choose "This Feature will not be available
- Finish the installation.
- Reboot the server
Once vzShadow has been installed and VSS has been removed and the VM rebooted, retry your backup
