Possible Cause:
VSS tools are not installed with new version of vRanger. Referenced path to backup.xml belongs to a previous version of vRanger Quest path(x86).
1. Browse to following location and remove freeze.bat from directory
%ProgramFiles%\VMware\VMware Tools\ backupscripts.d
2. From vRanger GUI inventory view
3. Right click on Exchange server.
4. Select Configure VSS Tools.
5. Check and modify the freeze.bat created in %ProgramFiles%\VMware\VMware Tools\ backupscripts.d using the below syntax.
If the above fails to install then Manual install will be required.
1. Browse to the following path on vRanger server: "C:\Program Files\Quest\vRanger\VSS"
2. Copy one of the following files from the vRanger installation directory to the
3. Virtual machine running Exchange Server & Place in the following location:
"C:\Program Files\Quest\vzShadow"
Copy Vzshadow_x86.exe if the virtual machine is running a 32-bit version of Windows.
Copy Vzshadow_x64.exe if the virtual machine is running a 64-bit version of Windows.
4. On the virtual machine running Exchange Server, locate the backupscripts.d folder.
"%ProgramFiles%\VMware\VMware Tools\ backupscripts.d"
5. Open the freeze.bat file in a text editor and type the following syntax:
(Full path to the Vzshadow_x86.exe or Vzshadow_x64.exe)-bc=(Local drive on which Exchange databases reside)\backup.xml (A list of all local drives on the virtual machine)
Example:
C:\Program Files\Quest\vzShadow\Vzshadow_x86.exe -bc=C:\backup.xml C: D:
6. Save and close the freeze.bat file.
