Installing vRanger on Windows 8 / 2012 -
Description
To install vRanger on Windows 8 / 2012, you will need some additional software components. -
Cause
SQL Express 2005 is not supported on Windows Server 2012 or Windows 8. If you want to install vRanger on Windows Server 2012 or Windows 8, you must install vRanger using a supported database option other than SQL Express 2005. If you are installing the database on the vRanger server, it must be done prior to installing vRanger. -
Resolution
Before installing vRanger on a Windows 2012 server:
- Install the .NET Framework 3.5 features
- Start the Add Roles and Features Wizard and select the .NET Framework 3.5 Features option
- If you recieve a message warning you to Specify an alternate source path, click the Specify an alternate source path link at the bottom:
- Specify the path to the installation media and browse to the Sources\SxS folder.
- If you only have an ISO you can right click and mount the ISO. The mounted ISO will now appear as a new drive.
- Complete the wizard
- Install a compatible version of SQL server or plan to use a remote SQL server.

SQL Server 2012 Express Download - http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=29062 - Make sure you note the SQL server name/instance, Authentication mode & credentials for the vRanger installation.
Begin the installation of vRanger.
