A VM created with VMware View will not backup in vRanger. Additionally, vSphere can't take a "clean" snapshot (or remove it) of the VM either.
VMs created with VMWare View are not supported for backup or replication in vRanger. They are analogous to VMware LabManager VMs (also not supported by vRanger), as they are a series of linked snapshots that point back to a base VM image. Since this is not a "real" VM per se, the base operations needed by vRanger (like creating/deleting snapshots) are handled differently, and will not yield a valid backup (also consult VMware's Knowledge Base regarding VMWare view VMs and "Sparse" disks.
There is no resolution to this issue, other than to deploy the VM as a "conventional" VM with either "Thin" or "Thick" disks.
