Mailbox server logs filling up with Get-TransportServer cmdlets from Unified Communications Diagnostics server. -
Description
Unified Communications Diagnostics (UCD) detects a server as Mailbox only role but still queries it for Transport Role and fails continuously filling up MSExchange Management logs with message "Cmdlet failed. Cmdlet Get-TransportServer, parameters {Identity=SERVERNAME}." Event ID: 6 Source: MSExchange CmdletLogs.
The error occurs when retrieving the DNS button drill down list on the 'AD/DNS Health' panel of Exchange 2007/2010 plug-in in Diagnostic Console.

Cause
Although UCD detects a server as Mailbox role only, the PowerShell cmdlet 'Get-TransportServer' is used to collect the DNS server information at the first step for the DNS button on the 'AD/DNS Health' panel of Exchange 2010 plug-in in Diagnostic Console. This information is used to view the transport configuration information for computers that have the Hub Transport server role or the Edge Transport server role installed.In the second step, it connects to the remote registry of the target server to retrieve DNS settings from NIC Settings and combine the DNS IP overrides which do not exist in the InternalDNSServers and ExternalDNSServers properties returned by Get-TransportServer cmdlet.Please refer to the attached file DHCPRegKey.PNG related to the specific key from remote registry:'\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\...' -
Resolution
STATUS
This has been identified as a legacy issue. A Change request to add server role checking before executing Get-TransportServer has been raised. Waiting to be implemented in a future release of Unified Communications Diagnostics.
WORKAROUND
If you do not want the cmdlet to be executed so frequently, please follow the steps below to set the refresh interval:1, Open the E2K10ProxyConfigFile.xml file located at :'C:\Program Files (x86)\Dell\UCCS - Diagnostics\DiagnosticConsole\Binaries\E2K10ProxyConfigFile.xml' (for 64 bit OS) or 'C:\Program Files\Dell\UCCS - Diagnostics\DiagnosticConsole\Binaries\E2K10ProxyConfigFile.xml' (for 32 bit OS)2, Go to the line 226 and add a MinRefreshInterval value as below (for example):Before:<DNSServers AlwaysRefresh="1">After:<DNSServers AlwaysRefresh="1" MinRefreshInterval="3600">3, It is using the second as the MinRefreshInterval value, (e.g. The value 3600 stands for 3600 seconds, it is 60 (3600/60=60) minutes)It means that the PowerShell cmdlet 'Get-TransportServer will be executed every 60 minutes. The value of MinRefreshInterval can be greater than 0 and less than any integer value.You can use a suitable value to meet any of your requirements instead of the example value 3600. -
