Toad Data Point 6.0.5 - User Guide

Publish Toad Documents to Intelligence Central

Toad allows you to publish Toad documents as objects to a Toad Intelligence Central (TIC) server. After publishing, you can share and manage these Toad documents similar to other objects in TIC.

Toad users with Manage privileges to a published Toad document can edit the document in Toad Data Point. Toad users without Manage privileges can copy a published Toad document (if it has been shared with them). See Get a Published Toad Document for more information.

Note: This feature is available in the Toad Data Point Professional edition only and requires access to a Toad Intelligence Central server.

To publish a Toad document to Toad Intelligence Central

  1. Do one of the following to open the Publish to Intelligence Central dialog.
    • For most Toad documents, you can publish from the Toad document window. Click Publish File in the Wizard bar.
    • For files in the Library, right-click a file and select Publish File.
    • For Import and Export templates (which do not open in a Toad document window), select Tools | Import Export Data | Publish Template. Then browse to and select the file.

Or add the Import/Export template to the Library and publish from there.

  2. In the Publishing dialog, select a destination server and a folder.
  3. Enter a name to display in the Object Explorer.

Note: The name must be unique within a folder per Toad document type. For example, no two ER Diagrams in the same folder can have the same name, but an ER Diagram and a Query Builder file in the same folder can have the same name.

  4. Click the Sharing link to modify sharing (visibility) options for your published Toad document. See Publish to Toad Intelligence Central for detailed information about publishing options.

Considerations and Limitations

Consideration/Limitation Description
Local database connections in document

You cannot publish a Toad document containing a connection to Local Storage, the Toad Sample database, a local Access database, a local Excel file, or any locally-installed database. If your document contains one of these local connection types, please modify or remove the connection before publishing.

Note: A network connection to an Access database or Excel file is allowed.

Notes:

  • To view the connection information for a published document, in the Object Explorer, right-click the document and select View Details. Then select the Connections tab.
  • You can publish a Toad document without saving it as a local file first.
  • You can also publish an existing Toad document as a generic file. Select File | Send To | Publish File. See Publish Generic Files to TIC for more information.

  • See About Toad Files for a list of Toad documents and their file extensions.
