Creating a user account

User accounts can be created from the Manage User Accounts and User Groups page. Only the administrator can create and manage user accounts in NetVault Backup.

To create a user account:

In the Navigation pane, click Users and Groups.

On the Manage User Accounts and User Groups page, click Add User.

NetVault Backup creates a user account and assigns the default name New User (or “New User [n]” if the default name is in use) to this user.
By default, the table is sorted by User Name.
You can sort the table by one or more columns, as required. For more information, see Sorting records in NetVault Backup WebUI.
To view the page size setting, sorting order in the table, export the records, or edit table settings, click the icons at the lower- right corner of the table. For more information, see Customizing tables in NetVault Backup WebUI.
To quickly find entries containing specific field values or text in any column, you can use the Search box at the upper-right corner of the table. The data in the table is filtered as you type the search text into the box. You can also include wildcards (“?” or “*”) in the search filter string.

NOTE: The NetVault Backup Server does not delete the user account if you exit without completing the user addition procedure. If you do not require the user account, you must manually delete it from the Manage User Accounts and User Groups page. For more information, see Deleting a user account.

Configure the options described in the following sections:

Click Done to save the user details.

Setting user password

IMPORTANT: You can only assign or update the password for a local NetVault Backup user. Password management for AD users is managed via Active Directory.
To set or change password for a user account:

On the Manage User Accounts and User Groups page, click Set Password.

To remove the existing password and reset it to blank, select the Reset password to blank check box.

To set or change the user password, configure the following options.

Current Password

Type the current password for the user account. Leave it blank if no password is set for the account.

New Password

Type a new password for the user account.

A password can contain alphanumeric and non-alphanumeric characters, but it cannot contain non‑Latin characters. A password can contain a maximum of 100 characters.

Confirm Password

Re-type the password for confirmation.

Click Apply to save the user details, and return to the user settings page.

Configuring user details

IMPORTANT: Do not use the @ symbol in the User Name field. assumes that a name that contains @ is a domain user and automatically tries to authenticate it with Active Directory when the user logs on.
To configure the user name, contact information, and other details:

On the Manage User Accounts and User Groups, click Modify Details.

Identification

Under Identification, provide the following details:

•
User Name: In User Name, type a unique name for the user account. You can assign a name based on the user group, role, or actual name.
A user name can contain alphanumeric and non-alphanumeric characters, but it cannot contain non-Latin characters. There is no length restriction, but a maximum of 20 characters is recommended on all platforms. The following characters are not supported in user names:

NOTE: Do not use the @ symbol in the User Name field.

Real Name: In Real Name, specify the actual name of the user.

Contact Information

Under Contact Information, provide the following details:

•
Email-1: Use this box to specify the primary email addresses for the user account.
•
Email-2: Use this box to specify any additional email address for the user account.
•
Email-3: Use this box to specify any additional email address for the user account.
•
Telephone: Use this box to specify the telephone number for the user account.
•
Cellular: Use this box to specify the mobile phone number for the user account.
•
Pager: Use this box to specify the pager number for the user account.
NOTE: The email ID configured in the Email-1 box is used for email notifications if you set up a notification profile for the user account. For more information, see Setting up user notification profile.

Other Details

Under Other Details, provide the following details:

•
Workstation: Use this box to specify the workstation name.
•
Description: Use this box to specify the workstation description.
•
Location: Use this box to specify the workstation location.
•
Password never expires: By default, this option is selected. To apply the password policy settings for a user account, clear this option.
NOTE: You can use the Password never expires option for the user accounts, if password for the selected user does not need to expire.

Click Apply to save the user details, and return to the Manage User Accounts and User Groups page.

Configuring client and media group memberships for a user group

Configuring client and media group memberships for a user group
To configure client and media group memberships for a user account :

On the Manage User Accounts and User Groups page, click Client and media group memberships.
For local users, select the Users tab, and for groups, select the Groups tab.

Add or remove the client and media groups, in Editing Group Memberships for User page.

Client group memberships

To add or remove the client groups, perform the following:

•
Grant access to client groups: To grant access to specific client groups, select the groups in the Not a member of list, and click Join. The selected client groups are moved to the Member of list.
(To select consecutive items, hold down the Shift key while clicking with the mouse button; to select non-consecutive items, hold down the Ctrl key while clicking with the mouse button.)
To remove a client group, select the group in the Member of list, and click Leave.

Media group memberships

To add or remove the media groups, needs to perform the following:

•
Grant access to media groups: To grant access to specific media groups, select the media groups in the Not a member of list, and click Join. The selected media groups are moved to the Member of list.
(To select consecutive items, hold down the Shift key while clicking with the mouse button; to select non-consecutive items, hold down the Ctrl key while clicking with the mouse button.)
To remove a media group, select the group in the Member of list, and click Leave.
•
Grant access to all media groups: To allow a user access to all the media groups of NetVault Backup Server select the check box.

Click Apply to save the group membership information for the user, and return to the user settings page.
