LiteSpeed for SQL Server 8.9.5 - Security and Compliance Guide

Troubleshoot Log Reader

Sometimes when you try and access a standard database file a message is displayed indicating you do not have permission to open this file. You are instructed to contact the file owner or Administrator to gain access to the file.

When UAC (User Access Control) is enabled all admin accounts except Administrator operate as standard accounts with basic user permissions. When users with admin accounts try to access files or folders, which are only allowed access by Administrators, UAC requires that the permissions be elevated to give an admin user similar permissions as Administrator.

Workarounds include the following:

  • Assign group "users" read permissions to database files or separately for each account
  • Elevate admin user permissions (start LiteSpeed as Administrator)
  • Disable UAC (not recommended)
