Foglight for JMX System Requirements Installing Foglight for JMX Managing JMX Agents Managing MBean Server Models Monitoring and Investigating JMX Data

Switch a JMX Agent Server Model

After the JMX agent has been created, you can change the server model assigned to that agent.

2
In the list that opens, click Switch server model.
Optional — If you require a new Server Model, click Create Server Model. For more information, see Creating MBean Server Models.
Click Next.
Otherwise, click Previous to go back and select a different model, or click Cancel to close the dialog box without saving the change.

Define Server Model Instance Overrides for a JMX Agent

When a JMX agent is assigned to an MBean Server Model, the model defines which instances to collect by default. If you want more control over the instances collected by a specific agent, you can define agent instance overrides. For example, if an MBean type in the server model is left with instances as “unspecified”, you can define an override to collect all instances instead. Or, if the MBean Server Model is set to “All”, you may want to override the instances to be more selective.

2
The Monitored Instance Overrides: AgentName view opens in the display area. Use this view to specify the MBean instances you want to monitor for an agent. If left unspecified, the server model is used to determine which instances to monitor.
Select the Apply the following overrides to ‘typename check box and do one of the following:
To specify which instances to monitor, select Monitor some available instances as follows, and then select one of the following options:
Click Select Instances to open a list of discovered instances. From this list, you can explicitly include or exclude instances to monitor. Click Refresh to update the list. When finished, click Apply, then OK.
Click Add Object Name Query to include or exclude instances that match the results of an object name query. On the Match Instances dialog box, type a query for the object name in the box, then click Set. Matching instances are included by default. To exclude them, clear the Include check box.
Click Add Regular Expression to include or exclude instances that match regular expression text. On the Match Instances dialog box, type the regular expression text in the box, then click Set. Instances with matching text are included by default. To exclude them, clear the Include check box.
5
Clear the Include default check box if you do not want to include the default monitored instances defined by the server model (for example, “all available”). This option is enabled by default (that is, the default monitored instances are automatically included).
6
Optional — click Preview Instances to see a list of MBeans you have selected to monitor. Click Refresh in the Monitored Instance Preview dialog box to update the list. This option allows you to quickly review your changes before you save them. When you are finished with the preview, click Close.

Change a JMX Agent's Server Group

A server group is typically used to represent the domain, cluster, or any other logical or administrative grouping, to which an MBean server belongs. You can change the server group for a particular agent.

2
In the list that opens, click Change assigned server group.
To use an existing group, click Assign the following Server Group, and select the group from the list.
To define a new group, click Assign the following Server Group, and select Define new group from the list. Type a name for the new group in the Name box.
4
Click Change.

Delete a JMX Agent

When you delete an agent, data collection stops, and that agent instance is removed from the monitored host. In order to resume monitoring that host, you must create a new agent, or configure an existing one to monitor it.
