RAID configuration

A multi-disk RAID configuration is strongly recommended (RAID 10 recommended).

Network information for virtual appliances

You need the following information ready when deploying virtual appliances to hosts.

Mask corresponding to the IP Address and subnet

Optional—Domain name of the IP Address

Mask corresponding to the Auxiliary IP Address and capture subnet

Creating port groups on virtual switches

We recommend that you create the port groups before deploying Foglight APM virtual appliance templates. This enables you to map the appliance’s network adapters to the port groups while deploying the template, rather than editing the installed VMs afterward. For an explanation of the port groups, see Required port groups.

Follow the procedure for the type of virtual switches used with the selected installation scenario:

Configuring port groups on a distributed switch

The following procedures assume that your environment already has a distributed switch with a port group that connects to the intranet. This existing port group corresponds to the VM Network described in Required port groups. If you do not have a distributed switch, see the VMware® documentation for instructions on how to create one and configure a VM Network port group.

The default name of the distributed switch is dvSwitch. Your switch name may be different. If so, substitute that name in this procedure.

NOTE: Port mirroring is not recommended because configuring RSPAN VLAN on the physical switch that connects ESXi® hosts generates a substantial amount of additional (and essentially duplicated) network traffic. For information about port mirroring, see the VMware® documentation.
