Transferring files to Windows systems

To transfer support files to a Windows® system, you use WinSCP. You can download WinSCP from http://winscp.net/eng/download.php.

Launch WinSCP from your Microsoft® Windows workstation.
The WinSCP Login dialog box opens.

To create a new connection, click New and specify the following options:
File protocol — Select SCP.
Port number — Use the default port number 22.
Host name —Type the host name or IP address of the appliance.
User name —Type an SSH-enabled Console Program account name.
Password — Type the password for the account.
Optional—before connecting to the appliance, save this connection by clicking Save and provide a name under which to save this information.
The WinSCP file transfer window opens. On the left is your Windows Documents folder. On the right is the /home/<user_account> directory on the appliance, which in this example contains a support bundle file called logfiles.zip.

Transferring files to Linux systems

Most UNIX® systems including Linux® comes with a SCP utility called scp. File transfer are one way only — from the appliance to the Linux system.

You must initiate the file transfer from the appliance, not from your Linux system. In other words, you need to push the file from the appliance to the Linux system, rather than using your Linux system to pull the file from the appliance.

scp <file> <Linux_account>@<IP_address>:/home/<Linux_account>/
<file> is the support bundle or TCP dump file, such as logfiles.zip.
<Linux_account> is the user account name on your Linux system.
<IP_address> is the IP address or host name of your Linux system.

Troubleshooting appliance-hosted Management Servers

If you encounter problems with a Management Server on an appliance, contact Quest Support. You may be asked to generate a support bundle as described in Creating support bundles. You may also be instructed on how to start the Management Server in debug mode to gather more information.

Differences from working with server-hosted Management Servers

If you are used to working with server-hosted Management Servers, you should note the following differences for appliance-hosted Management Servers:

The appliance.config file enables you to change a subset of the settings found in the server.config file and other Foglight configuration files.
You cannot edit the server.config file or other files directly. See Restricted file access.
