Publish Projects to Intelligence Central

Toad allows you to publish a project from the Project Manager as an object to a Toad Intelligence Central (TIC) server. After publishing, you can share and manage these projects similar to other objects in TIC.

Note:This feature is available in the Toad Data Point Professional edition only and requires access to a Toad Intelligence Central server.

You can use published projects as a way to share a set of Toad resources for a particular project or task with others. For example, you can publish a project containing a Toad file, the connection, an Automation script, and the exported Excel file.

You can publish a single project or multiple projects at one time from your currently-loaded Project Manager file. See Project Manager to learn more about projects and the Project Manager.

Before Publishing a Project

When publishing files and resources as part of a project, there are some considerations worth noting. Please review the following.

Files and Other Resources

When published to Intelligence Central, the following resources are notably different.

• Files are copied to server: While your local Project Manager project contains a link to a file, a published project contains the actual file. The file is copied to the Intelligence Central server when you publish the project.
• Database connections: The connection information is included, but not the connection password.
• FTP connections: The connection information is included, but not the connection password.

Toad Documents

For some Toad documents, a document published as a project is not equivalent to the same document published separately.

• All Toad documents (except Query Builder, Import template, and Export template): When published as part of a project, these documents do not include a defined connection. See Best Practices for options.

  Note: A Query Builder, Import template, or Export template published as a project is equivalent to the same document published separately.

• Automation scripts: A script published as a project is not modified for the TIC environment and therefore cannot be executed on TIC.

Best Practices

All Toad documents (except Query Builder, Import template, and Export template): For best results, add the connection (as a database connection resource) to the project before publishing. See To add a database connection to a project for more information.

Another alternative is to publish the file separately, not as part of a project (open the file and publish it from an open document window).

Automation scripts: Publish a script as part of a project to share the script with colleagues. To run an Automation script on TIC, publish it separately, not as part of a project.

Publishing misc resources: Publishing as part of a project is the easiest way to publish the following resources: URLs, FTP connections, database object links, and named SQL.

Publish Projects

To publish a single Toad project

1. In the Project Manager window, right-click the project and select Publish Project. The Publish to Intelligence Central dialog opens.

2. In the Publishing dialog, select a destination server, a folder, and sharing options for your published project. You can also rename the project. See Publish to Toad Intelligence Central for detailed information about publishing options.

   Note: The sharing privileges you specify for a Project Manager object apply to all files and resources in the project or projects. If necessary, you can alter the sharing and managing privileges at the project level or the file level after publishing.

3. After the project is published to TIC, it displays in the Object Explorer as a Project Manager object . Users with which you shared the object can Get (copy) the entire project or selected files from the project. See Get As Project.

4. After publishing, add tags to the Project Manager object to apply the tags to each file and resource in the project.

To publish multiple Toad projects

1. Select any project in the Project Manager window and click .
2. In the Publish Projects dialog, do the following:
   1. Select each project you want to publish.
   2. If you want a project to have a different name in TIC, you must rename it in this dialog. You cannot rename individual projects in the Publishing to Intelligence Central dialog. However, you can rename a project in Intelligence Central after it is published.
3. Click Publish. The Publish to Intelligence Central dialog opens.

4. In the Publishing dialog, select a destination server, a folder, and sharing options for your published Project Manager object. See Publish to Toad Intelligence Central for detailed information about publishing options.

   Note: The sharing privileges you specify for a Project Manager object apply to all files and resources in the project or projects. If necessary, you can alter the sharing and managing privileges at the project level or the file level after publishing.

5. When the publishing process is finished, a success message displays. Click the link in the message to open the project in Intelligence Central.

6. After the projects are published to TIC, they display in the Object Explorer as Project Manager objects . Users with which you shared the object can Get (copy) an entire project or selected files from a project. See Get As Project.

7. After publishing, add tags to the Project Manager object to apply the tags to each file and resource in the project or projects.
