Troubleshooting On-Premise Migration

How do you troubleshoot On-Premises Migration?  

Most migration issues can be avoided by verifying the pre-requisites for On-Premises migration including:

• A Remote Powershell endpoint configured with Basic Authentication
• An EWS endpoint
• MAPI/HTTP Configuration

Some areas to check for the Remote Powershell Endpoint:

• Verify that the username format is the UPN, the downlevel “domain\user” format does not work.
• Verify that the username and password credentials are correct.
• Be sure that Port443 is open on the firewall.
• Be sure that Basic Authentication is configured on the Powershell Directory.

Some areas to check for the EWS Endpoint:

• Be sure that EWS is not blocked internally.
• Be sure that Port443 is open on the firewall.
• Verify that you are using Basic Authentication. We do not support Multi-Factor Authentication.
• The Client string may be blocked. Use Set-Casmailbox to fix.
• EWS may be blocked on a mailbox. Use Set-Casmailbox to fix.
• Be sure that the client does not require VPN connectivity to access EWS. EWS must be externally accessible without going through a VPN.

Some areas to check for MAPI/HTTP:

• Confirm that MAPI/HTTP is properly configured for the organization.
• Be sure that MAPI/HTTP has not been disabled on the account used to perform the migration.
• Confirm that the External URL is setup for the MAPI virtual directory.
• Be sure that only Basic Authentication is used. We do not support Multi-Factor Authentication.
• Verify that the firewall allows Port443 access to the MAPI virtual directory.

Be sure that quotas for attachments are matched. If an attachment is over the quota, the copy will fail.
