CPU Yields

You can use "CPU Yields" in conjunction with the CPU Activity in the Detail tab to determine whether the CPU data reflects a truly inactive engine or one that is frequently starved out of the CPU by the operating system.

Low CPU utilization + High Yields = Inactive system

Low CPU utilization + Low Yields = Possibly starved out of CPU by the OS.

An engine that is not busy will yield to the CPU after a period of time related to the runnable process search count parameter. A high number of "CPU Yields " indicates that the engine yielded voluntarily.

If you also see that "CPU utilization" is a low value, then the engine is inactive, as opposed to being starved out.
