When copying a file to a NetApp share that has the “â” character in the filename, the following error occurs: The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.
Description
A file with the “â” character in the filename can be copied from a Windows source machine to a Windows target machine. However, it cannot be copied to the NetApp target share. When copying the file manually to the Netapp share, the following error occurs: "The filename you specified is not valid or too long". When copying the file to the NetApp share using Secure Copy, the following error is occurs: "The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect".
Cause
The NetApp target is not able to map these characters since they do not fall between Unicode 0x01-0x19. PAD and SGCI have no Unicode assigned, and appear as ‘XXX’.
Resolution
Remove the special character(s) from the filename before copying them to the NetApp share.
