How to configure OnDemand Migration for Email to migrate from Exchange 2007 or 2010 to Office 365
Resolution
Prerequisites:
An Exchange 2007 or 2010 account that has been granted Impersonation rights: - See SOL94168 for instructions on how to grant Impersonation rights for Exchange 2010 - See SOL90114 for instructions on how to grant Impersonation rights for Exchange 2007
An Office 365 account that has been granted ApplicationImpersonation rights: - See SOL90111 for instructions on how to grant ApplicationImpersonation rights for Office 365
Create the Job File which is a text file listing the names of the mailboxes you want to migrate. The format of this file is the name of the source mailbox such as John.White and if the target mailbox name is different, insert a tab and then the target mailbox name
Configuring OnDemand Migration for Email and Migrating:
Logon to the OnDemand Portal
Open OnDemand Migration for Email
Click the Connections tab or click Next in the bottom right corner
Under Source Connection, click the dropdown box for Server Type and select Exchange 2007/2010
Check Use auto-discovery
If you do not have auto-discovery configured you will need to manually enter the servername: - If SSL is enabled the format is: exchange.example.com - If SSL is not enabled the format is: http://exchange.example.com/EWS/Exchange.asmx
Enter the UPN (User Principal Name) and password of an Exchange 2007 or 2010 account that has been granted Impersonation rights
Click Test Connection
Enter the name of a 2007 or 2010 mailbox and click Test Connection again
Click Close after the test completes
Under Target Connection, click the dropdown box next to Server Type and select Microsoft Office 365
Check Use auto-discovery
Enter the email address and password of an Office 365 account that has been granted ApplicationImpersonation rights
Click Test Connection
Enter the name of an Office 365 mailbox and click Test Connection again
Click Close after the test completes
If the Test Connection for both the Source and Target were successful, click Save and Continue
Click Browse to locate the Job file that contains the mailboxes. (For information on how to format this file as well as an example file, please click the How to format a mailbox file link)
Click Import to load the Job file
Confirm the Source and Target mailboxes are correct after the file loads and click Continue
Select the items you wish to migrate" - You can specify a specific date range - Exclude folders by checking them or entering the folder path under Exclude Specific Folders - By default, only Email is selected. You will need to manually select Contacts, Calendar and Tasks
Click Save and Continue
If you would like to make any changes you can select the tabs on the top or use the Edit Settings links under Migration Checklist on the left
Click Start Migration to begin the migration
While the migration is running, you can select the name of a mailbox that is in the process of migrating to see the migration status
Click Back to All Mailboxes to return to the list of migrating mailboxes
During the migration you can see the Estimated number of Items to be migrated for each mailbox that is currently migrating. You will also be able to see the number of items processed as they are migrated as well as the percentage that has been completed
After the migration of a mailbox has been completed you can again click the name of the mailbox to view the overall status and any errors or warnings that may have been encountered during the migration
Clicking the Audit Log link returns a screen where you can search for mailboxes and see the migration information for those mailboxes
