Restoring a personal device's iCloud backup to a company device that will be DEP-enrolled (4298540)

When an iOS device is assigned to a DEP Profile and it is enrolled on supervised mode, when the iCloud backup is restored the supervised mode is lost and device is set to unsupervised mode.

Restoring a personal device's iCloud backup to a company device that will be DEP-enrolled.

This guide outlines the process to enroll a company device in DEP (Device Enrollment Program) using KACE Cloud while retaining a personal Apple ID on both personal and company devices.

Steps

1. Create a DEP Profile in the Admin Portal:

   • Log in to the Admin Portal.

   • Create a new DEP Profile.

   • Ensure the profile does not skip the Apple ID and Apps & Data screens during setup.

2. Assign the Company Device to the DEP Profile:

   • Locate the serial number of the company device.

   • Assign the serial number to the DEP Profile created in Step 1.

3. Perform a DEP Sync:

   • Initiate a DEP Sync in the Admin Portal to apply the profile to the company device.

4. Factory Reset the Company Device (if applicable):

   • If the company device requires a factory reset, perform the reset after the DEP Sync is complete.

5. Back Up the Personal Device:

   • On the personal device with the personal Apple ID, trigger an iCloud backup.

   • Wait for the backup to complete before proceeding.

6. Set Up the Company Device:

   • Power on the company device (new or recently reset).

   • Connect the device to a Wi-Fi network.

   • The device should automatically activate with Apple and retrieve the DEP configuration.

7. Restore from iCloud Backup:

   • When prompted during setup, select "Restore from iCloud Backup."

   • Log in with the personal Apple ID used on the personal device.

   • Choose the iCloud backup created in Step 5 to restore.

8. Complete DEP Enrollment:

   • After the backup restores, the DEP enrollment process should continue automatically.

   • Verify that the device is enrolled in KACE Cloud and the personal Apple ID remains logged in.

Notes

• The personal Apple ID will remain active on both the personal and company devices.

• Ensure the iCloud backup is complete before starting the restore process on the company device.
