When trying to start the Archive Manager Exchange Store Manager Service it will not start and gives an error: 'The service failed to start in a timely manner'.
In the Application log in Event Viewer you will also see a corresponding error regarding items in use in the Registry.
The Temp folder under the profile of the account running the service is missing or corrupt. The Archive Manager Exchange Store Manager Service uses this Temp directory to store temp files along with it's Source Properties Config file.
By default this directory is located here on Windows 2003: C:\Documents and Settings\ArchiveMgr_ESM\Local Settings\Temp
And here on Windows 2008: C:\Users\ArchiveMgr_ESM\AppData\Local\Temp
You may need to change your Folder Options in Windows Explorer to view all files.
Browse to the location of where the Temp directory should be and create one. If there is already a directory (or file) here called Temp then rename it and then create a new Temp directory.
Restart the Archive Manager Exchange Store Manager Service
