When powering on a restored vm when the original vm is still powered on you may experiance
1) Duplicate IP address warnings on one or both of the vm consoles
2) One or both vms may stop responding
This is due to the fact that vRanger restores an image of the vm so it will contain the same server name and IP address as the original vm.
To resolve this issue you need to change the name and ip address before the restored vm is placed on the network. To do this:
- Select the restored vm from the Vsphere client
- Right click and select Edit settings
- On the Hardware tab select the Network adapter and uncheck Connect at power on
- Click ok
- Power on the vm
- Use the Console tab to logon to the server and make the changes to the server name and ip address
- Once changes are made reenable the Network adapter to Connect at power on
