How to upgrade Recovery Manager for Active Directory from version 7.8 to 8.1
1. Obtain new license file for version 8.x of Recovery Manager for AD from license@quest.com
2. Download Recovery Manager for AD version 7.11.2 and 8.1 from support.quest.com
3. Make a backup of the below two files:
Windows 2003 location:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Quest Software\RMAD\Backups.mdb
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Quest Software\RMAD\ERDiskAD.mdb
Windows 2008 location:
C:\Users\All Users\Quest Software\RMAD\Backups.mdb
C:\Users\All Users\Quest Software\RMAD\ERDiskAD.mdb
4. Install 7.11.2 on top of the existing 7.8
5. Make a backup of the below two files:
Windows 2003 location:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Quest Software\RMAD\Backups.mdb
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Quest Software\RMAD\ERDiskAD.mdb
Windows 2008 location:
C:\Users\All Users\Quest Software\RMAD\Backups.mdb
C:\Users\All Users\Quest Software\RMAD\ERDiskAD.mdb
6. Install 8.1 on top of the existing 7.11.2
9. If using preinstalled backup agents, upgrade the agents on the DC's (uninstall old and install new). The new version of 8.1 includes a management node within the RMAD console to deploy backup agents to the DC's automatically. If there is a firewall between the console and the DC's then you will need to install the agent manually.
Due to the several upgrades needed to get to version 8.1 it is highly recommended to do a fresh install of 8.1 and reconfigure the console if the original console did not have a lot of configuration in place.
*NOTE* You may also need to reconfigure the username and password for the account that is being used under the Agent Settings tab. Not changing this will generate the following error when running the computer collections: The system cannot find the file specified.
