When an agent is installed on a system which is operating off the network, the agent splash screen can take a minute or more to load.
The agent is not able to reach the appliance to check in because the system is not connected to a network. The agent installation changes the registry key at HKLM > Software > Microsoft > Windows NT > Current Version > Winlogin from C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe to C:\WINDOWS\System32\KUsrInit.exe.
To resolve the problem:
1. Install the agent using the NOHOOKS=1 option at the command line to prevent the Winlogon registry key from being overwritten. Example: msiexec /qn /i ampagent-5.5.25198-x86.msi HOST=k1000.kace.com NOHOOKS=1
Or:
2. Backup the registry key at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows NT > Current Version > Winlogin (Reference: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/back-up-the-registry} and manually change the Winlogon registry key from C:\WINDOWS\System32\KUsrInit.exe to C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe (the system may need to be in Safe Mode to accomplish the task).
This resolution is confirmed on 32 bit and 64 bit clients.
