When creating a device smart label it is possible to click test to get an idea of how many systems will end up in that label.
It may however, be noticed that when the device smart label is created it will have very few (possibly 0) systems in it.
When the test button is clicked, it is doing a scan of our database to see what systems fit the smart label filters. This is the equivalent of doing an advance search.
However, systems are only added to the smart label after they check-in. This means that any devices that have not yet checked in since the smart label was created will not be a part of the smart label.
This is done on purpose to make sure that things such as software distributions or other things that rely on the label to be accurate won't occur until the system has checked in and the label criteria confirmed as correct for that system.
For example, there may be a smart label to check if a software program is installed. That smart label is linked to a managed install of that software so that if it is now installed the managed install will install it. Because a managed install happens after a check-in when the smart labels are checked, it will ensure the software install only goes ahead if it is needed.
