0x80131904 errors when running ControlPoint reports (4294363)

A user gets 0x80131904 errors when attempting to run a ControlPoint report.

The ControlPoint service account has not been granted access to all SharePoint content databases.

Note: This solution is for any environment that is using claims authentication.

1. Open Central Administration > Application Management > Manage web applications.
2. Select the ControlPoint Web Application and click on User Policy.
3. Check if both the Windows and claims entries of the ControlPoint service account is listed with Full Control permission. If not, proceed to step 4. Otherwise, proceed to step 5.

   

4. Select the ControlPoint service account entry and select Delete Selected Users.
5. Log in to the ControlPoint server using the installation account, which should have the sysadmin role on all SQL servers in the SharePoint farm.
6. Right-click on the ControlPoint License Manager and select Run as administrator.
7. Select Added SharePoint Web Application or Content Database, then click on Record License Info.
