Copy occurs between Windows 2003, 2008 and EMC Isilon. The user maps the target, but creates the shares manually on the EMC target. Domain admins are given full control over the share, and the Everyone group has read only permission. When the copy starts, Secure Copy reports continuous “Access denied” errors, and permissions are not copied. The permissions are being inherited on the EMC target.
When Secure Copy is used in a Windows to Windows scenario, it copies permissions as expected, without errors. Since EMC is not a Windows device, Secure Copy’s compatibility is limited.
Every EMC Isilon can be configured differently, so it may not work in every environment. This information is intended to provide pointers for fixing this anomaly.
For example, in this specific scenario, folders are being copied to the path below. “ifs” is a share which every Isilon should have.
\\EMCIsilon\ifs\MainShare\Target
In order to fix this problem, the "MainShare" permission has to be manipulated. The account running the copy job needs to be explicitly added and given the “Run as root” permission.
Inside the “Mainshare” remove the folder “Target” (as shown in the path above) and allow Secure Copy to create the folder with the “Create initial source folder under target folder” option.
Secure Copy should be configured as follows:
Source:
\\SourceServer\D$\SourceFolder (Note: D$ is the Adminshare and can be any drive letter)
Target:
H: (See below for mapping the drive)
Note: Target can been mapped with following command:
Net use * \\EMCIsilon\MainShare\
This will create a network mapped drive with the next available drive letter (for example H: above). This drive letter will be specified as the target.
“Override security on access denied” option should be checked.
Run the copy job. There should be no “Access denied” messages if everything works properly, and permissions should be copied successfully.
