Create a new Journal mailbox and make sure the Archivemgr_Journal account has the proper permissions
• Account requires "Receive-As" rights to any account nominated as a Journal Mailbox Account. This
user must also be an Exchange View-Only Administrator.
• Should be a Domain User; does not need to be an Administrator.
• Is a member of ArchiveManagerServiceUsers group.
Note: Don't start to Journaling on this mailbox until it says below
Create a mapi data loader
Open Archive Manager | Administration | Data Loaders and select Click here to Add a Data Loader.
- Type: Select MAPI from the drop down dialog.
- Name: The friendly name of the mail server.
- Server: The name of the mail server; for example, server.yourdomain.com
- User ID: The login required by the server. For the MAPI data loader only the username (e.g. ArchiveMgr_Journal) is needed. This can be replaced with a Legacy Exchange Distinguished Name if there is a possibility of conflict or ambiguous names. The LEDN should be in the format: /o=Domain/ou=Exchange Admin Group/cn=Recipients/cn=ArchiveMgr_Journal.
- Password: NO password is needed for this type of the data loader.
- Active (checkbox): Defines whether the data loader is active or inactive. Name the Data Loader
Confirm the data loader service account can open and access the new journal mailbox
Now you can switch your journaling rules to point to this new journal mailbox.
- Open the Exchange Management Console to begin setting up journaling rules.
- Under the Organization Configuration node, select Hub Transport.
- In the Hub Transport page, select the Journaling tab.
- In the Actions pane, edit your current journaling rule to use the new Journal mailbox.
Note : One way to confirm the data loader has access is to temporarily disable the old mapi dataloader and enable the new one. Then check the logs and see if it's opening the new mailbox without any errors. (You just want to make sure that there is not a buildup of mail in the new mailbox because something isn't working)
Then once the new mapi dataloader is running and pulling email out of the new journal mailbox. You can enable the old mapi dataloader that points to the old journal mailbox and allow it to clear out the messages out of the old mailbox.
