Configure KACE agent for Software Library download -

This article is meant to cover a specific issue with Software Library downloads of the K1000 agent for self installation. For Group Policy/GPO agent installs, the recommended configuration can be found here: Installing the Kace k1000 agent through Windows Group Policy
If multiple copies of the Windows agent installer are downloaded from the software, a number similar to [1] is added to the end of the filename for subsequent copies. This causes the normal configuration of adding the K1000 name to the MSI file (see GPO link above) to point to a non-existent location if the original download isn't used.

Orca or a similar program to modify the agent installer MSI file to add a HOST property. It is then no longer necessary to add the K1000 name to the installer filename. This process was tested to work in Orca with the 5.4.10622 agent and deployed to Windows XP/Windows 7 systems.
Steps to configure the agent file
- Obtain the agent installer (msi file) from the K1000's client folder (\\theK1name\client\agent_provisioning \windows_platform) or go to Settings > Provisioning > Update Agents from the Advertised Updates area in the Windows Version: click the version listed (this will download a zip file that contains the agent installer with the name of K1000's). To download the latest agent version visit the Support Portal.
Create the Software Library item for the agent download- Create a new software inventory item for the modified agent installer.
- Click Inventory > Software > Choose Action > New.
- Name and describe as necessary. Select the operating systems needed for deployment.
- Upload the modified agent installer as an associated file and save the software inventory item.
- Navigate to Service Desk > User Downloads > Choose Action > New.
- Download should be the default Package Type, select it if not. Click the Software option In the drop down, select the inventory item for the modified agent installer. It may be necessary to filter the results first.
- Check the Enabled option, if not the user will not be able to view the software listed.
- Add any instructions, notes or labels as necessary.
- Save and test.
