Users are not able to empty their trash in their Groupwise mailbox.

Smart Purge ensures that GroupWise items will not be purged from the system prior to backup. As part of the backup, the GWTSA places a time stamp on each database that is backed up.

WORKAROUND
Verify if the following option is checked / allowed.

1. From ConsoleOne select Tools | GroupWise Utilities| Client| Options| Environment | Cleanup.
2. Allow Purge of Items Not Backed Up: Select this option to enable items that have not been backed up to be removed from the trash.
This option is enabled by default.
Select the Prompt Before Purging option (available only if Allow Purge of Items Not Backed Up is enabled) to prompt the user to confirm the purging of any files that have not been backed up

RESOLUTION

The retention timestamp required to allow deletion of emails from Trash will not be set if the mailbox has not been processed without error.

1) In the mailbox tab in the Archive Manager website, check that the "Folders Updated" date is recent for the users that are unable to empty their Trash.  If the "Folders Updated" date is not current, there may be issues with processing the users mailbox.  Set the following setting and value in the Archive Manager configuration editor to turn on extended logging for the GroupWise Store Manager Service:

The following logfile will contain further details of any errors when processing the users mailbox "C:\Program Files\Quest Software\ArchiveManager\Archive GroupWise Store Manager Service.exe.log"

Running GWTMSTMP on Windows

The GWTMSTMP program file (gwtmstmp.exe) is installed into the same directory where you installed the GroupWise agents (POA and MTA). You can copy it to additional locations if needed.

To check the existing time stamp on all GroupWise user databases in a post office, use the following command:

Syntax:
gwtmstmp.exe /ph-drive:\post_office_directory

Example:
gwtmstmp.exe /ph-m:\gwsystem\acct

The results are displayed on the screen

To set a current time stamp on all user databases in a post office, use the following command:

Syntax:
gwtmstmp.exe /ph-drive:\post_office_directory /set

Example:
gwtmstmp.exe /ph-m:\gwsystem\acct /set

A basic backup time stamp can also be set in ConsoleOne. Select a Post Office object, then click Tools > GroupWise Utilities > Backup/Restore Mailbox. On the Backup tab, select Backup, then click Yes.
