Before converting other vendor images to K-Image, you are going to have to deploy them first to a computer before they can be captured. Altiris and Ghost have windows based imaging. This means all you have to do is copy the 32-bit version of these deployment tools to \\k2000\petemp (ex. \\mydomain.local\petemp) along with the images you want to convert and click your way to deployment or use the command line.
NOTE: Although this workaround does work, we cannot officially support Ghost, Altiris, or any other images tools other than those that come with our product.
STEPS:
- Create a directory on \\k2000\petemp called images. Inside of this folder, place both the images and the 32-bit version of the deployment tool you want to deploy.
- Boot any computer into KBE. The computer hardware does not have to be able to support the image since the computer is never going to boot to the operating system on the hard drive of the computer.
- Enter the recovery console and using the command line, deploy your first image to the computer. For Ghost the command is Ghost32.exe and for Altiris it is rdeploy.exe. You can use the vendor tool GUI or the command line.
- Once the deployment using the third party imaging tool is complete, close the command window and go back to the main menu. Select the Imaging menu in the K2000 menu and capture the image as usual.
- Do not exit KBE. The entire process can be done just by navigating from the recovery console to the Imaging menu and back.
- Repeat the process on the other images you want to convert.
- Finally, if you have included the Altiris client, you will want to create a post install task to remove this once the image is deployed. The command for this is C:\Program Files\Altiris\aclient\aclient.exe -remove -silent
