Sometimes messages within a mailbox are not getting stripped even when they are older than the stripping policy's age set on the mailbox.
This may happen due to a number of reasons like:
1) Archive Manager Exchange Store Manager Service has not had a pass through the mailbox yet.
2) Archive Manager Exchange Store Manager Service cannot read the message(s) due to either mailbox or message(s) corruption
3) Archive Manager Exchange Store Manager Service user ArchiveMgr_ESM lost the necessary permissions on the mailbox
4) The message(s) in question has/have not got proper Internet Headers
The following resolutions can apply for each of the above cases separately.
RESOLUTION 1:
Ensure enough time is allowed for Archive Manager Exchange Store Manager Service to visit the mailbox. To determine if Archive Manager Exchange Store Manager Service has visited the mailbox or not look at the related ESM log file. See https://support.quest.com/SUPPORT/index?page=solution&id=SOL46828&pmv=true for more info on How to identify a User's Mailbox ID and find related ESM log.
RESOLUTION 2:
If the Archive Manager Exchange Store Manager Service is not able to read the item in a mailbox it may log an error in ESM log file. Move the mailbox to another storage group on the Exchange server. This may fix the corruption on a mailbox.
RESOLUTION 3:
Check the permissions of ArchiveMgr_ESM user according to documentation.
RESOLUTION 4:
Archive Manager processes messages based on their Internet Headers. If the message has been migrated from other platform it may lose its headers. Check if the message has proper headers by opening it. To process this message add it as an attachment to a new message and send it to yourself.
