When trying to perform an Online Restore and selecting to import a file with the DN of the object you would like to restore, you get the following error:
"The following object cannot be found in the selected backup:
<DNofObject>
Select a backup that includes the object"
You have confirmed that the DN is correct. If you try to Find the objects full name you get no items found. Search for the first 2 or 3 characters of the objects name will return a list of similar accounts including the object you are looking for.
Copy the esent.dll file from the Domain Controller that was backed up to the Recovery Manager for AD installation folder:
Copy the appropriate esent.dll file from the DC that was backed up based on the bitness of the OS:
- If the Domain Controller backed up is running a 32-bit version of Windows, copy the esent.dll file from the
%Windir%\System32 folder on the Domain Contoller
- If the Domain Controller backed up is running a 64-bit version of Windows, copy the esent.dll file from the
%Windir%\Syswow folder on the Domain Contoller
Copy the esent.dll file to the Recovery Manager or Recovery Manager Forest Edition installation folder:
- The default installation folder for Recovery Manager is %ProgramFiles%\Quest Software\Recovery Manager for Active
Directory
- The default installation folder for Recovery Manager Forest Edition is %ProgramFiles%\Quest Software\Recovery
Manager for Active Directory Forest Edition
Close and reopen the RMAD console and try your search again.
I f you still cannot find the objects by using the "Find " option, delete the previously unpacked data and let the wizard unpack it again with the new esent.dll in place. I.e:
The following error indicate that the incorrect version of esent.dll file (32-bit instead of 64-bit) was copied to the RMAD server:
"Failed to Connect to the extracted Database: IDispatch error #1024"
OR
"Error occurred while opening database. Details: A callback function could not be found"
Note: If you are trying to restore using a backup from a Windows 2016 DC, the RMAD server has to be installed on Windows Server 2016. The above workaround does not apply to Windows 2016 DC backups.
Note: RMAD(FE) 9.0 and later now require that the RMAD server have the same or higher OS version as the DCs being backed up to ensure the Online Restore Wizard functions correctly.
