Wake on LAN Requirement Changes in Windows 8 and 10
Description
Wake on LAN will not function by default in a shutdown state on Windows operating systems later than Windows 7.
Cause
The default power state configuration in Windows versions later than Windows 7 (including Windows 8 and 10) will not allow for proper functionality of Wake on LAN in a shutdown state.
Resolution
This was a design change in Windows and is expected behavior. For more info and instructions for changing the default configuration to allow Wake on LAN in a shutdown state, see the following Microsoft KB article:
