Description:
Load Index or Scan completes successfully, however nothing is available in the restore screen
A backup might have expired and been removed from the database, or an index might have been offlined (Red X appears against backup saveset in the Restore window). If you try to load the index it appears to load but you are unable to expand the directory Tree beneath the save set and the red X is still there. I you do a Scan of the tape the same symptoms remain. If the index has not been offlined but just expired, the saveset won't appear upon scanning at all.
Symptoms:
Tape will be visible in the media manager; however nothing is available in the restore screen. Tape with offlined index will remain with a red X against it.
If the Blocks to Write and Blocks to Read are changed from the Default Value of 1 this problem will occur.
In some cases setting the Blocks to Write and Blocks to Read back to the default value of 1 will allow the tape to be scanned into the database and successfully restored.
If the tape is from a remote system that still has the tape in its database you can set the Blocks to Write and Blocks to Read back to the default value of 1; perform a NetVault Database backup of the remote system and then restore the netVault database to the current system and restore the tape.
A fault NVG-1214 has been opened for this problem, which is reported to be fixed in NetVault 7.4.3.
