How to authenticate multiple vSphere servers in vRanger with root credentials
During initial setup/configuration of vRanger, you are presented with the Startup Wizard. If a VirtualCenter is added, by default, vRanger will use the VirtualCenter credentials to authenticate the vSphere hosts. If VirtualCenter credentials were able to authenticate the vSphere hosts, the Status on the ESX Hosts in the Startup Wizard would be a green checkmark (VirtualCenter Credentials Valid) and the server icon would have a mini-VirtualCenter icon on the lower right. Clicking the Next button in the Startup Wizard would skip authenticating the vSphere hosts with root credentials
1. In vRanger, launch the Startup Wizard again (Tools menu -> Startup Wizard)
2. At the VirtualCenter and Host Information screen, in the Hosts section, select all the hosts or multiple hosts
3. Click the Edit button
4. Enter the User Name (root) and the Root Password, then click Connect button
During authentication, you will see the Status field change and if successful, to a green checkmark. The mini-VirtualCenter icon on the server icon should change to a yellow key
5. Click Exit when finished
Requirements:
1. root password is the same for all vSphere hosts
2. On an ESX host, the service console is configured with 'PermitRootLogin yes' in the sshd_config
3. vRanger 5.2.x or higher
