Previously successful quesced backups, all-of-a-sudden, start to fail with error, "Error Message: Failed to create vRanger snapshot: Check the status of your VM, making sure the files are intact and that the VM is usable."
Checking the source VM event viewer shows VSS services stopped at time of failed job.
This problem can be caused by the API call, initiated by vzshadow, to time-out while it waits for the VMtools VSS to complete committing data , completing all open transactions, rolling transaction logs and flushing caches, which is then committed to the snapshot phase. Simply restarting the VMware Tools service should resolve the issue. If the issue persists, it may require uninstalling and reinstalling the VMware tools.
