VA-Based backups for 1 or many machines fail with one of the following errors:
Error Code 1: 2523 - FATAL vix_cant_create VIX can't create /var/tmp/vix/dUUID/config [at vddkd_init:XXX] [at vix_open_conn:XXX]
Error Code 2: 2523 - mkdir: cannot create directory /var/tmp/vix/: Read-only file system
CAUSE 1:
The process in the virtual appliance crashed while consuming 100% of vCPU or RAM resources.
CAUSE 2:
Ranger creates temporary dir at /var/tmp/vix for each backup run. At some point maximum number of files in single dir is reached and OS refuses to create a new directory.
Make sure there are no Jobs running in vRanger before applying any of the Resolutions.
RESOLUTION 1:
Add more CPU or RAM resources to the virtual appliance. We recommend to start with 4 vCPU and 4 GB of RAM, then adjust depending on the size of the environment.
There are two ways to configure the vCPU and RAM resources for the VAs. Make sure you're not running any Job:
RESOLUTION 2:
Log in the VA using VMware's Console or Putty, the OS is Linux based.
Run the following commands:
You can additionally run this command to see the number of temp directories:
