LAN-free (over Fiber or iSCSI) restore fails with "2129 - can't write <path>/<VMname>.vmdk" error
It order to restore VM over Fiber or iSCSI, the ESX(i) datastore LUNs must be presented to vRanger as read-write. They also must appear online in Windows Disk Management, otherwise Windows considers them as read-only thus preventing vRanger from writing any data to such LUNs.
1. Make sure that ESX/ESXi datastore LUNs are presented to vRanger machine as read-write either by asking your SAN administrator or by using management software from SAN vendor.
2. Open up Windows Disk Management (press Windows + R, type diskmgmt.msc in the text box and then hit the Enter key), right-click on offline disks and bring them online.
NOTE: Bringing the SAN LUNs online will not write signatures to the LUNs. However, before bringing the LUNs online (Offline is default setting for SAN LUNs on Enterprise and higher versions of Windows 2008) Ensure automount is disabled by following instructions outlined on Pg 25 of the vRanger Deployment guide available on SupportLink. Automount should be disabled for ALL versions of Windows.
