This article will guide you through the steps needed to migrate your agents from one repository to another repository due to consolidation or due to space concerns.
1. From the core console, select Archive at the top of the screen
2. The Archive wizard will appear
3. Select One time archive
4. Select (local, Network or cloud) for an archive location
5. If using Network or cloud option, you will need to provide user name and password to access the location. It is also a good practice to use domain\user name.
6. Select the agent you wish to archive and select next
7. You now have the option to select archive target size, Recycle action or to rebuild recovery point chain. The diagram below helps to explain the options
8. You can now select a date range for your archive. Keep in mind, the archive needs a base image to be complete. So, if you select a date range that doesn’t include a base image, Rapid Recovery will copy a base image to complete the chain of recovery points.
Recycle actions descriptions:
9. Select finish and the archive process will begin.
Note: Creating archives will not remove your recovery points when completed. If you are trying to save space in the repository, you will need to remove the recovery points manually. In some cases, you may need to pause replication and/or backup jobs to avoid I/O errors on the core.
10. When the archive is completed, pause backups for the Agent.
11. Delete the recovery points for the Agent on the existing repository or simply delete the old repository. You do not want one Agent to have recovery in two different repositories since this will introduce problems with restores.
12. Import the archive and from the drop down select the new repository for the imported RPs to be written too. Wait for this import job to complete. Alternatively, you can leave the archive alone and not import anything. If you need to restore from this archive, then you can simply attach the archive for a restore. This is a faster option since importing will take about as much time as creating the the archive.
13. Under the Agent's Setting page and click "Change." You can select a repository for the new backups. If the Repository option is missing, it is because the old repository is still mounted. Force a repository check on the old repository and this will unmount the repository. Once the check is in progress, go back to the Agent's setting pages and you will be able to select a repository in the drop down.
14. Resume the backups when the new repository is now assigned to the protected machine.
