Restores through SQL Management Studio fail if Agent service is running (4040240)

Backups or restores through SQL Management Studio fail while the Rapid Recovery agent service is running. The backup or restore process will fail with the following errors:

Example from Microsoft SQL Management Studio:

System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError: Exclusive access could not be obtained because the database is in use. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo)

Workaround A:

1. Stop Rapid Recovery agent services
2. Re-run the backup or restore process through SQL Management Studio
3. After the backup or restore process completes, start up the Rapid Recovery agent services

Workaround B:

1. Stop Rapid Recovery agent services
2. Change the following registry key value to 1:
   • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\AppRecovery\Agent\SqlMetadataService\NonPooledConnection
   • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\AppRecovery\Agent\SqlMetadataService\UseSqlQuery
3. Start the Rapid Recovery agent service.
4. Perform backup or restore through SQL Management Studio
