AppAssure 5.x and Rapid REcovery 6.x perform image level backups by first taking a full snapshot (base image) before copying the incremental snapshot thereafter. Keep in mind that due to the limitations of VSS, backups of the database will be in a crash-consistent state. With this type of backup you would need to perform one of the following restores:
To restore your Domain Controller, consider the following scenarios:
Let say you lose your Domain Controller but other DC's are available. The other DC's will contain data which is up to date. In this case we would want to perform a Non-Authoritative restore.
To perform this type of restore you would:
* No other steps are required. Replicating of AD records will be performed automatically.
Note: sometimes it's easier to build a new machine instead of the failed one, and promote it to the Domain Controller role when rest of AD DCs are available. FSMO roles can be seized if failed machine was carrying one of these roles.
