How to perform SQL service pack upgrades for the SQL instance that runs the vRanger DB. (4036588)

This article outlines the preliminary steps to be taken before upgrading SQL server or installing a service pack.

Before upgrading SQL, make sure the version of vRanger Backup & Replication that is currently installed on the system is compatible with that version of SQL. To verify this, you can refer to the Installation/Upgrade guide in the technical documents.

1. Ensure that no backup, replication or restore is being executed. You can verify this on the "My Jobs" pane.
2. Close any opened vRanger Backup & Replication window. 
3. Open Windows Services (services.msc) and stop Quest vRanger Service
4. Take a backup of the SQL vRangerPro database. This database keeps vRanger configuration, credentials and job history.
