Boot Error: Bootmgr Missing (Windows 7, Server 2008/R2) (4033078)

This article serves as a “How-To” guide that details the steps necessary to resolve the “Bootmgr is missing” error when trying to boot a Windows machine within AppAssure 5.

When you attempt to boot a Windows machine within AppAssure 5, the “Bootmgr is missing” error displays

The following steps will allow you to resolve the “Bootmgr is missing” error.

1. Boot the machine to a Windows CD and then click the Repair option. Check to see if it detects a Windows installation.

2. If a Windows installation is detected, move to step 3. If a Windows installation is not detected, do the following:

• Open a command prompt
• Run bootrec/RebuildBcd
• Then reboot to the Windows CD and go back into the repair console. It should detect Windows now.

3. Run startrep on the Windows installation :

• Open a command prompt  

Note:  You should be in “x:\sources”

• Change directory to “x:\sources\recovery”
• Run startrep.exe
• If you are prompted to add an installation, select the one it detected

4. Reboot the machine and Windows will load.
