License usage for the KACE Systems Management Appliance (SMA) (4273943)

License usage on the KACE Systems Management Appliance will depend on which management method has been selected for the device.

There are two main methods to consider:

• Agent device management - This method requires the KACE SMA agent to be installed on a supported computer or server system.
  • License usage count on:
    • Managed Computers
    • Monitored Servers (if the monitoring feature is in use)
• Agentless device management - This method does not require an agent to be installed. Depending on the device, various connection types can be leveraged to communicate and collect inventory data (SSH, SNMP, and other methods)
  • License usage count on:
    • Chromebooks and Network Devices

You must choose to provision the computer or device before it begins providing the full inventory and other functionality. Once it is provisioned for management, license usage will be as follows:
 

*Please note that workstations and servers can be managed as agent and/or agentless, but it is recommended to avoid using both at a time.

Licensing Terms:

The KACE SMA license agreement entitles the administrator to a specific number of agent managed devices, monitored servers, Chromebooks and network devices. If additional seats for agent/agentless devices are needed for any of these categories, please contact our sales team for assistance.
