For Replication Share setup in the SMA (Systems Management Appliance, former K1000) the following are definitions for the parameters "Destination Path" and "Download Path" and the recommendation for its setup.
Prerequisite:
Instructions:
1. The Destination Path is the location that the SMA appliance will download the
Managed Installation executable, scripts, and patch files on the replication share.
The syntax to use is either:
A. If the Replication Share is using a local drive, use local drive syntax:
For example: C:\SMAshare
B. If the Replication Share is using a network drive, use the UNC format:
For example: \\kaceRep\SMAshare
The user name parameter is the user who will need to have read/write/update/delete privileges to that location so the files can be uploaded there.
The user name and password are needed only if the Replication Share is in UNC format ( \\kaceRep\SMAshare )
It is important to provide the credentials even if the clients are normally able to access the share without providing normally the credentials. This is due to the fact that the agent is running in the context of LocalSystem and not in the context of the locally logged on user.
PLEASE NOTE: KACE does not support hidden shared drive with the '$' notation.
For example, the shared drive can't be setup as \\KaceRep\e$
2. The Download Path is where each client machine will access the share drive location to retrieve patching files, managed installation executable, scripts, etc.
The syntax to use is the UNC path:
For example: \\KaceRep\SMAshare
The username will need to have read privileges to access the share directory during execution time.
PLEASE NOTE: The replication share must be setup as SMB that will need to have a username and password. It is not recommended to leave out a username and password for either Destination or Download parameters even though the replication share is setup without a username and password and open to the public with all access. Issues such as 'unable to access to the replication share during patching and other time' have been reported when the replication share is used.
KACE recommends a different user/password combination for read/write/update/delete (for the K1000 Destination path) and read-only (for the client machines Download path).
