General Options

This topic may not include a description for every field in the screen or dialog.

To set general options

  1. Click in the main menu.

  2. Select General | Options.
  3. Review the following for additional information:

    General Options Description

    Restore Layouts

    Click and select Restore All or Restore Selected Layouts.
    Launching from Other Applications Description

    Launch SQL Optimizer from other applications

    Click and select the version of SQL Optimizer you want to launch from other Quest Software products.

Note: These options apply to SQL Optimizer and SQL Scanner.

  

 

SQL Classification Options

SQL Optimizer classifies SQL into categories in the Scan SQL, Find SQL, and Optimize SQL modules. You can use this page of the Options dialog to enable/disable classification rules, or to create new rules.

To set SQL classification options

  1. Click in the main menu.

  2. Select General | SQL Classification.
  3. Click New Rule.
  4. Complete the Create New SQL Classification Rule window.
  5. Select the Enable checkbox to begin using a rule.

Tips: 

  • To edit a rule, select it from the list, and then modify the editable options in the rule's description in the Rule Description section.
  • To remove any custom rules and restore the original rule set, click Restore Default.
  • To see descriptions of the classification categories, see SQL Classification Categories.

Ansi-SQL Options

Use this option to invoke Microsoft SQL Server functionality that checks your SQL for compliance with the SQL-92 standard. The compatibility results display in the Alerts window after the optimization process.

Note: This topic focuses on information that may be unfamiliar to you. It does not include all step and field descriptions.

To set Ansi-SQL options

  1. Click in the main menu.

  2. Select General | Ansi-SQL.
  3. Review the following for additional information:

    Check compatibility to SQL-92 standard level

    Select this checkbox to verify whether SQL statements meet the Ansi SQL-92 standard when the SQL statements are classified as Simple, Complex, or Problematic.

    You can also select the SQL Server compliance level for checking using the following:

    • Entry—Checks for SQL-92 entry-level compliance.

    • Intermediate and Full—Checks for SQL-92 intermediate-and full level compliance.

Note: These options apply to SQL Optimizer and SQL Scanner.

 

 

Execution Plan Options

This topic may not include a description for every field in the screen or dialog.

To set execution plan options

  1. Click in the main menu.

  2. Select General | Execution Plan.
  3. Review the following for additional information:

    Table Scan warning threshold (records)

    Specify the threshold at which you want to receive a warning.

    A/E Rows Relative Discrepancy warning threshold

    Specify the threshold at which you want to receive notification of the difference between actual and estimated rows.

    Specify threshold to receive notification of actual/estimated (A/E) Relative Discrepancy.

    Color

    Select the color of individual items in the execution plan.

    Font Select the font settings of the individual items in the execution plan.

    Note: The execution plan displays in several panes. The color and font settings in this window controls the settings in all the Execution Plan panes. Right-click the execution plan and select Plan Options to customize display options for individual panes.

Note: These options apply to SQL Optimizer and SQL Scanner.
