On Demand Migration is a Microsoft 365 tenant-to-tenant migration service that allows you to simply and securely migrate Microsoft 365 information from Exchange Online, OneDrive for Business, SharePoint Online, and Microsoft Teams. To complete a migration project, agents must be configured and deployed by administrators or downloaded directly by end users (as configured for your project). In either case, the agent will run on end users' workstations.
The purpose of this guide is to:
For complete details on setting up a migration project, refer to the On Demand Migration User Guide.
Before installing 1.2.1, ensure that your system meets the minimum hardware and software requirements. See the On Demand Migration Update Agent Release Notes for details.
To complete a migration project and reconfigure a user's applications, agents must be configured and deployed by administrators, then run on users' workstations or by user using the direct download link. In most projects, only one of the following agent types is available:
See Working with On Demand Migration Client Update Agent (CUA) for deployment details.
See Working with On Demand Migration Desktop Update Agent (DUA) for deployment details.
Client Update Agent is a utility provided with On Demand Migration that automatically switches users to newly migrated mailboxes as part of a migration project. The migration administrator downloads the agent, then deploys the agent to the required user workstations.
This is a viable option, however, it does not provide the enhanced agent deployment capabilities available with Desktop Update Agent. See Working with On Demand Migration Desktop Update Agent (DUA) for details.

IMPORTANT: The Client Update Agent package comes with the certificate for securing connections between the agent and On Demand Migration. If you suspect that the certificate is compromised, download the package again, selecting Reissue the certificate option. The previously issued certificate will be immediately revoked. |
To download Client Update Agent:
The Client Update Agent package checks the migration status and runs the odmclient.exe and the certificate for securing connections between the agent and On Demand Migration certificate.pfx.
To automatically distribute the agent across all clients:
See https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/identity/ad-fs/deployment/distribute-certificates-to-client-computers-by-using-group-policy for details.
