Changing Metric Display Preferences

To change how the metric appears in the Metrics pane:

On the JMX Explorer dashboard, in the Metrics pane, click Customize.
The Customize Metric Display dialog box opens.

Click the edit icon in the row for the metric you want to customize.
The Metric Preferences dialog box opens.

Change how each data point (or aggregated data point) is represented when displayed over time by selecting one of the radio buttons: Average Value, Minimum Value, Maximum Value, or Sum Value.

Change how the metric is displayed in a table column by selecting one of the following sort options: Calculated Period Value, Trendline with Current Value, or Current Value Only.

Click OK to save your changes.
The Customize Metric Display dialog box refreshes to display your changes.

NOTE: To discard all your changes and return to the view as it was initially, click Reset Preferences. The metric preferences revert to their default values.

Click Close.
The Metric pane updates with your changes.

Changing Metric Display Order

You can also change the order in which the metrics appear in the Metrics pane, either manually, or by allowing the system to automatically arrange them.

To change the metric display order:

On the JMX Explorer dashboard, in the Metrics pane, click Customize.
The Customize Metric Display dialog box opens.

Do one of the following:

To allow the system to automatically arrange the display order (sorts alphabetically), click Auto-Arrange.
•
To manually arrange the metrics, click the blue arrows (located between the Type and Is Key Metric? columns) to move the metric up or down the list.

Click Close. The Metrics pane refreshes to list the metrics in the specified order.

Monitoring the Java Virtual Machine (JVM)

The JMX Explorer dashboard provides the name and status of the JVM, if it is available. You can access information about the JVM (such as heap usage and garbage collection) by clicking the JVM name at the top of the dashboard.

The JVM summary popup displays the JVM details, and two performance charts. To review the performance in detail, click the Heap Usage chart to open the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) Dashboard.

Sometimes, the default JMX monitoring configurations provide you with too much data, which can lead to performance problems. One way to reduce data is to create server model instance overrides on a per-agent basis. This method allows you to collect a limited set of instances for an agent with a shared server model that is collecting data from all available instances by default, for example. With overrides at the agent level, you can include or exclude instances based on object name queries or regular expressions, or by selecting specific instances from a list.
