Our Sybase DBA's were looking for information on how to back-out a Foglight Sybase update to the Foglight Mangement Server (FMS) & clients.
The Foglight Sybase 2.5.2 Release Notes do not document a back-out procedure after applying the update.
Since the agent startup parameters (ASP), rules, and client software are all updated, one would require static backups of the FMS & clients to restore if a back-out of the update was required.
NOTE: A restore of course would be from a backup before the update was applied and this restore would revert your ALL of your data back to that period of time which the backup was generated.
Backup Procedure before applying the cartridge update.
1) Shutdown the FMS server and perform a recusive backup of $FGLHOME. (If your back-end database is not in this directory, then a backup of the database folders or database backup is also required).
2) Shutdown the Foglight software on all the Sybase Foglight clients and backup their respective $FGLCLIENT directories.
If a decision is made to back-out the updates, then a restore of your FMS & client backups would be required.
