QUESTION:
How does the foglight Linux OS agent get the zombie processes metric information used in the Zombie rule?
ANSWER:
The Linux OS agent reads the /proc directory for all the PID (Process ID) sub-directories. It then reads the stat file in each PID (Process ID) directory, and examines that file to gain the state of the process. If the file has a state field of “Z” then it is marked as a zombie. This information comes straight from the kernel.
