The Foglight Management Server (FMS) code line for 5.9.x introduced a number of security related changes. More specifically, legacy JBoss components involved in data submission, Foglight High Availability and Foglight Federation configurations have been removed. As a result, customer upgrading from any Foglight version prior to 5.9.1 will have special considerations. Highlights of the upgrade process are noted below, but you are strongly encouraged carefully read the release notes and upgrade guides, and to contact support with any questions.
If you are running any version prior to 5.9.1, please be advised that:
• You must upgrade the FMS to version 5.7.5.8 before you can move to a 5.9.x versions. The installer will check your FMS version and prevent an upgrade unless you are on an upgrade compatible version.• Once on FMS 5.7.5.8 version, you must upgrade all cartridges to 5.9.x compatible versions. The release notes and upgrade guides indicate cartridge version requirements, and the installer will check your cartridge versions and prevent you from upgrading if there are any incompatibilities.
NOTE: If required, you can obtain the Cartridge Builder cartridge from KB 234169
• Customers running in High Availability or Federation Configurations will have several additional considerations. Please see the specific sections in the Upgrade guide related to Federation and High Availability.• Customers with advanced custom agents that reference the JBoss submission library will need to modify those agents. We expect that few, if any, customers will need to make changes.• The 5.5.4 Operating System Cartridge is no longer supported, and is incompatible with 5.9.x and has been replaced with the Infrastructure Cartridge. If you wish to upgrade to 5.9.x, you will need to uninstall the OS Cartridge and use Infrastructure Cartridge 5.9.x.If you have concerns and would like to evaluate your cartridge and/or custom agent compatibility prior to upgrade, we have developed a pre-upgrade analysis utility to identify cartridges that need to be upgraded and custom cartridges that might need modified.
Compatible cartridges list
If the following cartridges listed in Compatible cartridges List are installed on your Management Server, you will need to upgrade them to a version compatible with Management Server 5.9.x before upgrading the Management Server.As always, Quest Support is here to answer your questions. Foglight Agent Manager
The Foglight Agent Manager (FglAM) is upgraded to version 5.9.4. This release of the Foglight Agent Manager does not contain any new features.
Infrastructure
The Infrastructure cartridge was upgraded to version 5.9.4. This release contains the following Foglight for Infrastructure new features and improvements:
- Added the support of collecting the percentInodesRemaining metric for AIX hosts and HP-UX hosts. (IC-4139/IC-4008)
- Added the support of collecting the Linux release information for the OperatingSystem Topology objects. (IC-4118)
- Added the registry variable "INF_NumberProcessesLowestValue" to the rule "Number of Processes" fatal severity. (IC-4087)
